The Sabbath is one of the most basic Christian practices and yet one of the most neglected. It is a gift from God, designed into our very creation in Genesis 1-2, coded into the law of God in the Ten Commandments and written about through the whole Bible.

Yet Christians struggle to recognize the gift that it is for God’s people. As Jesus corrects his opponents, the Sabbath is made for man, not man for the Sabbath. We’ve placed some resources together to consider the treasure of the Sabbath and some creative ways to keep it. Genesis 1 highlights how God has made us to experience rest in Him. That’s what the Sabbath points to. With the presence of sin and suffering in the world, a weekly Sabbath stands as a rhythmic reminder of our finiteness, our dependency upon God our Creator and Sustainer and it reorients us towards the sure hope of a future rest in Christ’s second coming to bring about the full restoration of all of Creation. May these resources help you rest!
