YMPC Counseling Policy

Life is hard. And there are times when the struggles of life feel overwhelming. We believe that biblical counseling functions as an extension of discipleship to help you meet the challenges of life in a way that will please and honor the Lord. We are dedicated to promoting the authority and sufficiency of the scriptures, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, and the community of believers for solving the problems of life.

Alex Kocher

Your counseling session will last approximately 60-75 minutes. The frequency of sessions will be recommended on a case-by-case basis. Counseling is most effective when it is consistent. However, the goal of biblical counseling is to equip you to counsel yourself from the scriptures for present and future struggles. It is not intended to be a long-term endeavor.

Long Distance Counseling

While face-to-face counseling is always preferred, Alex will hold Facetime and Skype sessions. If you are looking for a certified biblical counselor in your area, you can search for one in your state and city at

Homework is an integral part of the biblical counseling process. It takes the counseling from the office to real life and encourages a deepening dependence on the Lord. Homework may include reading and listening materials, lists or logs, journaling, scripture memory, Bible studies, and practical living assignments. Your effort and commitment to complete the assignments is very important. You will need to bring all completed homework with you to your counseling sessions.

Contact individual counselor for their fee schedule.

For our members: Young Meadows church has graciously agreed to provide two counseling sessions at no cost to members. After these initial sessions, members will be required to pay the counseling fee. If members are not able to pay the fee they may apply to the mercy fund of the church to cover some or all of the cost. The cost of homework materials is the responsibility of the counselee and needs to be paid for on the day it is purchased.

For non-members: Payment is due at the time of service. At this time, we can only process cash (please bring correct change) and checks. Make checks payable to “Young Meadows Presbyterian Church” or “YMPC” and put counselor's name in the memo line. The cost of homework materials is also the responsibility of the counselee and also needs to be paid for on the day it is purchased. If you are unable to pay the counseling fee or materials, please consider talking with your family members or church family for financial assistance. Churches often are willing to pay all or half of the counseling fee. Please speak to the couselors further if you are in need of financial help. We don’t want finances to keep anyone from seeking biblical counsel. We will work together!
